The intersectionality between neurodivergency and queer identities // Thursday, 12th of August // 14:00 o’clock // Casa Accept
The story of a personal experience, supported by a historical perspective, aiming to raise awareness and offer valid information about the intersectionality between queer identities and neurodivergency, while also raising the visibility of intersectionality and help queer neurodivergent people relate and better accept themselves. The event takes approximatively 2 hours and comprises historical context, sharing of personal perspective, a series of questions and sharing of the participants’ experiences and stories.
The host for this event is Ralu Baciu. Ralu is the co-vice president of PRIDE Romania, activist for the rights of vulnerable groups in the LGBTQ+ community and passionate educator. They received their ADHD diagnosis in the first half of 2020, only to discover their trans non-binary identity in the beginning of 2021. Coming out recently as non-binary lesbian and demisexual, Ralu wishes to present the way neurodivergency has played an important role in the denial process, perception, discovery and understanding of his gender identity, as well as the double discrimination the people in this intersectionality can receive, both socially and systemically.
The initiative for this event started from the alarming lack of awareness and valid information about ADHD and from the realisation of the impact neurodivergency had on his trans identity discovery.
The event is organised with the support of the Accept Association at Bucharest Pride (6th – 14th of August 2021). This year’s theme is “Come Out. Speak Up.” In 2021 we celebrate 20 years since Article 200 has been repealed from the Penal Code, which incriminated homosexuality, and we take a look back to the evolution of our rights and community during these past 20 years, aiming to build together a safe, inclusive future for each and every one of us. Together once again, building safe spaces where our identity is celebrated.
