Special Screening: Poppy Field// August 7th (Saturday), 20:00, Elvire Popesco Cinema
After the world premiere at the 24th edition of the International Festival Tallinn Black Nights (PÖFF), and the national premiere at TIFF (Transilvania International Film Festival), the movie „Poppy Fields” will be seen for the first time in Bucharest, in a special screening during Bucharest Pride, followed by a discussion with Conrad Mericoffer and Florin Caracala, moderated by Andreea Pietroșel.
The movie presents a day in the life of Cristi (Conrad Mericoffer), a young gendarme from Bucharest. During one short visit of Hadi’s (Radouan Leflahi), the man with whom he is in a long distance relationship with, Cristi and his colleagues participate in an intervention in a cinema from the town centre, where a series of protesters sabotage the screening of an LGBTQ+ movie. In the middle of the cinema scandal, a fugitive relationship with another man, from the past, returns in the present, threatening his professional and personal stability.
“The movie is an act of resistance towards limiting human rights and it represents a manifesto for promoting diversity in art. It is the voice of a discriminated minority, through a love story, about the imposibility of love and about decisions. The world premiere in Tallinn, the capital of a country belonging to the former Soviet Union, where homosexuality was desincriminated in 1992, is it in itself a very strong message. I hope that my cinematographic debut will open a broader conversation about tolerance, acceptance and respect towards vulnerable groups.” says Eugen Jebeleanu about the movie.
The event is organized with the support of ACCEPT, within Bucharest Pride (6-14.08.2021). This year’s theme is ‘Come out. Speak up.’ In 2021 we celebrate 20 years since the repeal of Article 200 of the Penal Code which criminalized homosexuality and we take a look together at the evolution of our rights and communities over the last 20 years, trying to build together an inclusive and secure future for everyone. We are together again, building safe spaces in which our identity is celebrated.
The price of the ticket will be 10 RON
